PermSelect-MedArray receives a Notice of Award from the US Patent Office for its "Impeller Driven Hollow Fiber Membrane Separator."
This landmark patent covers an impeller integrated with an annular membrane hollow fiber bundle submerged in a tank— with the impeller enabled to drive fluid flow through the bundle to produce a desired membrane separation.
This technology allows for using different types of membranes, such as gas transfer and filtration (TFF) membranes depending on the application. For example, silicone membranes can be used to aerate fed batch cell culture bioreactors without bubble sparging, thus eliminating potential problems such as damage to shear sensitive cells, production of foam, and limited gas exchange.
“We believe our novel device will provide a significantly improved tool for upstream processes in biotech, as well as in food and beverage, and in industrial applications” commented Patrick Montoya, president of MedArray.
